Thomson Smillie has an international reputation as a writer and speaker on the performing arts and is among the highest-rated speakers on the world’s most exclusive cruise lines.   He combines scholarship with wit and deep understanding of his art and of his audience.  Career highlights have included 12 years with Scottish Opera, the artistic directorship of the Wexford Festival, two years as general manager of the Opera Company of Boston and 17 seasons as general director of Kentucky Opera.  He lives in Louisville, KY., is married to Marilyn Meredith, has four children by his late wife, Anne, and four grandchildren.  He is a graduate of Glasgow University in his native Scotland, and lists his hobbies as a love of language, cooking, travel, tireless self-improvement and the cultivation of friendships. Having kept a journal for over 30 years, for the first 12 on ledger-like bound volumes, the last 15 years on a laptop, I feel the time right to start a blog in part to chronicle a particularly fascinating time in my life and in part to draw attention to my books and other products, some an outreach from my speaking engagements.
